A BILL
To amend the State Department Basic Authorities Act of 1956 to increase the maximum amount of an award paid under the Department of State rewards program in connection with the attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. AMENDMENTS TO DEPARTMENT OF STATE REWARDS PROGRAM.
(a) INCREASE IN MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF REWARD- Section 36(e)(1) of the State Department Basic Authorities Act of 1956 (22 U.S.C. 2708(e)(1)) is amended--
(1) by striking `No reward' and inserting `(A) Except as provided in subparagraph (B), no reward'; and
(2) by adding at the end the following:
`(B) A reward paid under this section in connection with the attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001, may not exceed $25,000,000.'.
(b) INCREASE IN FUNDING LIMITATION- Section 36(d)(2) of the State Department Basic Authorities Act of 1956 (22 U.S.C. 2708(d)(2)) is amended by striking `$15,000,000' and inserting `$50,000,000'.
