At a press conference in Madrid on Friday 14 September, the Secretary General of Interpol Ronald K. Noble announced his decision to create an '11 September Task Force' at Interpols Headquarters in Lyon, France. The objective of this special task force will be to co-ordinate international criminal police intelligence received at Interpols Headquarters and relating to the recent terrorist attacks in the United States.
The creation of the task force, consisting of Interpol Headquarters staff, will ensure that information received is processed as quickly as possible for immediate forwarding to the Interpol Washington Bureau and the FBI.
Request for full co-operation with FBI investigation
At the up-coming Interpol General Assembly session in Budapest (24-28 September), Interpol's President and Secretary General will propose an extraordinary resolution condemning the recent terrorist attacks in the United States. They will also request the full co-operation of Interpol Member States' police forces with the FBI investigation in order to bring those responsible to justice.
Interpol staff observe a 3 minute silence
Staff at Interpol's Headquarters in Lyon, France, gathered together on Friday 14 september at noon to observe three minutes of silence in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks in the United States.
